Job and career opportunities are always available at James River Nurseries.  The categories of employment are as follows:

  • Project Manager

The Project Manager is the direct supervisor to the foreman and is ultimately responsible for the client, the account and all associated landscape management activities.

  • Foreman

The foreman is the direct supervisor to all crew members and is ultimately responsible for all activities on job site and any other daily functions associated with landscape management activities.

  • Crew Members

Crew member is responsible for following direction directly from foreman and project managers.

Crew members must conduct themselves appropriately at all times and present an image in line with company policy.

Crew members must address any personnel / pay issues directly with foreman / project manager not with other crew members.

  • WAREHOUSE MANAGER

Warehouse Managers main function is to manage the day to day operations of the warehouse for inventory, equipment and production purposes. The WM works closely with the Project Managers for the purpose of efficiently scheduling non assigned equipment / vehicles; assistance with training / safety; prioritizing non contract jobs and their equipment / material needs.

  • SMALL ENGINE MECHANIC

Field personnel must complete a repair order ticket detailing what needs repair. If equipment is not ticketed, SEM is not obligated to make repairs. If equipment cannot be repaired within a reasonable amount of time (2 days), SEM must communicate with crew and discuss options.

  • VEHICLE MECHANIC

VM is responsible for monitoring a preventative maintenance program on all vehicles. During off season (December, January, February) all vehicles will be inspected so as not to interfere with growing season. During the course of the off season, every vehicle will get a thorough, diagnostic inspection detailing any potential problems, etc. Vehicle will be judged for it’s aesthetic appearance in addition to its working condition. Any major repairs, painting, body work, etc. will be scheduled for this time. VM is responsible for making sure that appropriate signage is attached to new vehicles before they are assigned.

  • Human Resources Department

The purpose of the Human Resources Department is to serve as a liaison between management and employees in all aspects of the professional work place. The Human Resources Manager serves as the voice of employees while maintaining a keen understanding of the organizations objectives. The goal is to harmonize both ends for the benefit of the company as a whole. In order to accomplish this task certain steps must be taken and others scaled. The following is an elaborate list of areas that need to be re-examined and a brief strategy is included as to how it will be accomplished.

  • Sales and Marketing

The Sales / Marketing Department of JRN is responsible for the acquisition of new work that fits the established Corporate Niche and for Customer Service and renewal of existing client. The department needs to work closely with other divisions of the company to insure that standards of service and profitability are met and exceeded.

  • ADMINISTRATION

Whereas everyone should be a customer service representative for JRN, designated employees will be responsible for the work order database. A service request can come from many different places, customer call in, customer fax, upper management, fellow employee, etc. All service request to be issued to the crews must go through the customer service representative.
