At James River Nurseries we believe in supporting our employees as well as our community when we can.  So when Alex Rodriguez, a valued employee AND mechanical engineering student at VCU, asked if we'd be interested in supporting something he was working on at school, we were all ears.

Turns out he's been participating in Hyperloop at VCU, a student-led initiative focused on designing and building an ultra-high speed transportation pod for the movement of both goods and people.

Conceived of by entrepreneur Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, "Hyperloop is a sealed tube or system of tubes through which a pod may travel free of air resistance or friction conveying people or objects at high speed while being very efficient, thereby drastically reducing travel times over medium range distances."

In order to promote the idea, they challenged student and non-student teams from around the world to a Hyperlood Pod Competion in order to bring forth new technologies capable of advancing the concept.  This competition has been held each year since 2015, and in 2018 (before Alex was a part of the team), Hyperloop at VCU qualified to participate in the international Hyperloop Pod Competition Finals at the SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne, Ca.  Since that time, Hyperloop at VCU has continued to work on innovative ways to move that technology forward.

At James River Nurseries we're proud of Alex for his participation in Hyperloop at VCU, and are thankful to be in a position to give a donation to support this organization.  Developing faster and safer methods to move goods and people, and revolutionizing the way we travel, is a lofty goal and we wish them the very best in their pursuit.
