James River Nurseries recently landscaped the entrance to a new neighborhood called The Landing at Swift Creek. Located on the Swift Creek Reservoir, this new community being developed by StyleCraft Homes, features 60 large homesites as well as newly designed floor plans offering a wide array of styles and elevations as well as open living spaces, lofts, 2 & 3 car garages and more. This community is also slated to offer an outdoor community pavilion, fire pit and kayak storage area.

On October 15, 2014, Examiner.com published an article titled “The 16 most beautiful liberal arts colleges in America.” James River Nurseries would like to congratulate the University of Richmond for being awarded the number one slot on the list alongside Swarthmore College. The ranking, compiled by members of the Higher Education Consultants Association and the Independent Educational Consultants Association, is an impressive list of beautiful colleges throughout the country.
You don’t need to spend much time on the campus to know that the University of Richmond is a special place. From the classic architecture to the lush grounds, it is easy to lose yourself in the beautiful surroundings. As one person in the article said, the “grounds feel like a country club.”
The University's commitment to sustaining this high standard of architectural integrity as well as their steady resolve in maintaining immaculate grounds is both distinct and admirable. The latest capital improvement project at the University of Richmond is a testament to those commitments. Over the summer, they completed construction of a new student housing complex called Gateway Village. This new complex, overlooking the intramural field with a ropes course, consists of four-buildings connected by a courtyard and houses 176 juniors and seniors in 44 apartments. Looking at the building, you would never know it is new. The structure, via design and materials used, blends perfectly with the rest of the campus architecture and stands grand and majestic as if it had been there for a half of century.
Over the years, James River Nurseries has been called upon to install a significant amount of landscaping on this beautiful campus and we were excited to be invited back to work on this latest project. Below is a short video of us installing the landscaping at Gateway Village.
James River Nurseries recently landscaped a new model home built by Boone Homes in Ellington Woods at Wyndham. This latest neighborhood to be developed in the award winning community of Wyndham offers an awesome opportunity to get a new home in a well-established, highly desirable master planned community.
Over the years, Boone Homes has earned a strong reputation as a leading homebuilder in our area. Having worked with this company for over 25 years, we are familiar with the “secret sauce” they use in order to constantly build upon their own success. Of course, there is really no “secret sauce,” so we don’t think they will mind if we share with you what we believe to be the keys to their longstanding success and also happen to be some of the most compelling reasons to consider investing in a Boone home.
1. Boone Homes adheres firmly to the old real estate adage, “Location, Location, Location.” They know the best way to protect their investment, which in turn protects their client’s investment, is to purchase homesites in communities offering superior amenities, excellent schools, close proximity to shopping, dining, and quality medical services, as well as access to road systems that allow for easier commuting.
2.Boone Homes is serious about the architectural integrity of the homes they build. Take notice that their M.O. (modus operandi) is to purchase every homesite within an individual neighborhood. They do this for one very important reason...creating neighborhoods that have better curb appeal which in turn provides an "added value" to each home. With a keen eye for design, this builder is meticulous in their approach to assuring that each home is proportionately accurate in every detail and that the homes offered within a neighborhood create a cohesive blend of styles.
3.Boone Homes understands that a home is likely one of the largest investments their client will make. Therefore, they respect their desire to “make the house their own.” They do this by allowing the client to customize the home to fit their specific needs and wants.
4.Boone Homes has invested significant time and effort in establishing a process, or pathway if you will, aimed at reducing the stress of building a new home. That journey begins from the time the potential client arrives on site and does not end until they have owned their new home for one full year. They skillfully guide their clients through each phase of the building process. From the on-site agent, to the selections coordinator and site superintendent, their goal is to help each client get the home they want and to deliver the quality they expect and deserve.
5.Boone Homes is a master of their craft. They are constantly monitoring the market for the latest trends in architectural features and finishes that appeal to today’s buyers. Additionally, they explore the market regularly for the most current methods for building a more energy efficient home as well as staying abreast of new technologies utilized in creating a "smarter" home. They can be found looking locally, regionally and nationally in an effort to keep their company on the cutting edge of the home building industry. Expect to see the most current trends in new home construction when you visit a Boone neighborhood.
6.Boone Homes builds a quality home. There is just something a little special about walking through a home built by Boone. It is almost as if you can “feel” how well the home is constructed. This is achieved by using quality materials throughout every stage of construction as well as utilizing skilled craftsmen who have mastered their trades.
At James River Nurseries we take great pride that a builder who sets such high standards for themselves turns to us to add the finishing touches by way of landscaping each home they build. We know we are on the right track when we are able to deliver on their lofty expectations.

Founded in 1983, James River Nurseries is a residential and commercial landscaping and hardscapes company that has been serving Richmond, Virginia and the surrounding counties for over 30 years.
As a professional landscaping/hardscapes contractor, the interaction with our clients is more often than not on site where we are doing the work for them, so we thought we would create a short video called "Around The Nursery" that gives a little insight into our company on our own turf.
James River Nurseries recently began landscaping a new distribution center built for Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC). Located on a 22.7 acre site just south of the new Vitamin Shoppe warehouse in Hanover County, this facility is approximately 260,000 square feet.
RNDC, a privately held company, is the 2nd largest distributor of premium wines and spirits in the United States and primarily distrubutes wine, selling about 3 million cases per year. They ranked 79th on Forbes' list of largest privately held companies in 2013 and employ more than 7,000 nationwide.
We would like to thank Catamount Constructors, the general contractor, for awarding James River Nurseries the landscaping portion of this project. Catamount Constructors, Inc. was founded in 1997 and is an award winning general contractor that “provides commercial general contracting & construction management services to owners and developers nationwide.” They averaged over $198 million in construction volume for 5 consecutive years.
According to Catamount’s website, “the emphasis we place on providing a high level of service is a significant factor in our culture and approach to providing professional services that are unique to the construction industry. This level of dedication has resulted in an 80%+ repeat client ratio for ten consecutive years, setting Catamount apart from other general contractors."
