James River Nurseries was proud to be selected landscape contractor for the newly constructed nursing school building at Randolph-Macon College.  Dubbed Payne Hall, in honor of C. Ladell Payne, former president of R-MC, and Haywood A. Payne, R-MC alumnus ('68), and Trustee Emeritus, this new, state-of-the art facility will provide a space for both discipline specific as well as interdisciplinary learning opportunities.

Payne Hall will include a simulation center designed to replicate complex patient care situations; a technology-enhanced classroom to support students' development of clinical judgement; and dedicated laboratories for health assessment, nursing skills, and delivery care in a home environment.

At James River Nurseries we appreciate and respect the important role nurses play in maintaining a strong and healthy community, and wish only the very best for all those who will be studying in the new Payne Hall and thank them in advance for their service!

At James River Nurseries our business centers around creating beautiful outdoor spaces.

One feature we sometimes use to create visual interest is the timeless pergola.  Providing both form and function, pergolas not only add dimension and visual interest to an outdoor space, but are great for defining areas for sitting, entertaining, dining or grilling.  And who doesn't love and enjoy the light shade they cast on a hot summer day.

Pergolas can be designed for specific needs and locations, making them ideal for a variety of outdoor settings.

If you are looking to add beauty and character to your yard, you might want to consider a pergola.

Mike Hildebrand, owner of James River Nurseries, will be on a panel of experts to discuss how you can expand the functional space of your home by creating outdoor living spaces.

The event, hosted by the Virginia Tech College of Argriculture and Life Sciences Alumni Organization, Virginia Tech College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and Hahn Horticulture Garden, is open to the public and will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2020 from 7 PM - 8 PM.

Mike will be joined by Steve Grigg, former owner of Grigg Design and Scott Douglas, Director of the Hahn Horticulture Garden.  During the presentation, they will share examples of outdoor living spaces as well as discuss areas in the Garden that illustrate design elements you could incorporate into your own landscape.

Bringing the Inside Out

James River Nurseries recently received a Safety Recognition Award for "No Vehicle Accidents, No Injuries or Illnesses, No Days Away from Work," from the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP).  The program reflects NALP's dedication to creating and maintaining safe work environments in the the lawn and landscape industry and is designed to reward those companies that consistently demonstrate their commitment to safety.

Companies that enter NALP's Safety Recognition Awards Program are required to submit a copy of their OSHA 300A Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses report and their year-end vehicle insurance claims summary report.  These reports are used in determining award recipients.

The National Association of Landscape Professionals represent an industry that employs nearly 1 million landscape, lawn care, irrigation and tree care professionals who create and maintain healthy green spaces for the benefit of society and environments.

Here at James River Nurseries, workplace safety is an integral part of our business strategy, and it's gratifying to be recognized by our peers for our record of safety.

James River Nurseries was proud to sponsor the first BizSense Home Run Derby.

The event, held August 26th at the Diamond, was created to give participants an afternoon of Home Run Derby fun.  It included twelve local businesses, each sending two batters to the plate to take their shot at being crowned Home Run Derby winner.

As an organization full of sports fans, this slugfest was right up our alley!  When approached to see if we would be interested in sponsoring the event, of course, we couldn't resist.

We not only chose to be a sponsor, but we also had two employees, JT & Noah, who wanted to participate in the event.  We're proud to say that JT took 2nd place overall in the event.  Way to go, JT!

We'd like to express our gratitude to Richmond BizSense and the Flying Squirrels for allowing JRN to participate in such a fun and uplifting event, and congratulate Ethan Hamill from the Shamin Hotel team for winning the Home Run Derby.  Great job, Ethan!
