James River Nurseries was proud to be selected landscape contractor for the new Magnolia Green Tennis Center.  It's clear that iStar, developer of Magnolia Green, is not slowing down on their commitment to develop a top tier community and continues to raise the bar with the amenity package they're offering at Magnolia Green.

With eight lighted tennis courts, 2 pickle ball courts, a pavilion and Pro Shop, this new facility is spectacular!  Congratulations, iStar, for being a leader when it comes to offering your homeowners awesome amenities to enjoy!

James River Nurseries recently completed the construction of a labyrinth for one of our clients and thought we'd share some interesting information about the potential benefits of a labyrinth.

From the Labyrinth Company™ website
Research conducted at the Harvard Medical School's Mind/Body Medical Institute by Dr. Herbert Benson has found that focused walking meditations are highly efficient at reducing anxiety and eliciting what Dr. Benson calls the 'relaxation response.'  This effect has significant long-term benefits, including lower blood pressure and breathing rates, reduced incidents of chronic pain, reduction of insomnia, improved fertility, and many other benefits.  Regular meditative practice leads to greater powers of concentration and a sense of control and efficiency in one's life.

A labyrinth is not a maze, but a walking meditation device with a single winding path from the edge to the center.  There are no tricks, choices or dead ends in a labyrinth walk.  The same path is used to return to the outside.

Walking a labyrinth is a right brain activity (creative, intuitive, imaginative), and can induce or enhance a contemplative or meditative state of mind.  It is a tool which can clear the mind, calm our anxieties during periods of transition and stress, guide healing, deepen self-knowledge, enhance creativity, allow for reconciliation, restore feeling of belonging to a community, and lead to personal and spiritual growth.

Wow!  That all sounds pretty good!  If you think you might like a labyrinth in your yard, give us a call, we'd be happy to build you one!

Check out this short video of us working on the one we recently completed:

Jame River Nurseries is proud to sponsor the 3rd Annual Circle the Wagons BBQ Cook-off and Concert.  Presented by Center of the Universe Brewing Company and benefiting Circles Ashland, this year's event will feature 6 BBQ vendors, 2 bands, 50/50 raffles, a special brew from Center of the Universe Brewing Company, and an expanded Kid Zone including a 40 ft inflatable obstacle course.

At James River Nurseries, we understand the importance of a strong and vibrant community and believe in supporting organizations focused on improving the quality of life for members of our community.  Circles Ashland is certainly one of those organizations.

As a local non-profit, Circles Ashland's goal is to help end poverty by engaging the entire community (residents, businesses, local government, other non-profits, churches, friends and neighbors) to help support families in poverty by equipping them with the tools they need to succeed and thrive.

We hope you will join us in supporting Circles Ashland by attending this year's Circle the Wagons BBQ Cook-off and Concert.  The event, which is free to attend, will take place Saturday, August 24th from 12-7pm at Green Top Hunt Fish.

In April 2018, legislation was passed legalizing Historical Horse Racing (HHR) in Virginia, allowing players to wager on previously contested races.  "The machines look and feel like traditional slot machines.  But instead of using random numbers, they're powered by an archive of horse races that have already been run, combining players' money into pools under the same pari-mutuel wagering system used in live horse racing."

Located on Midlothian Turnpike, just east of Chippenham, in the old Kmart, Rosie's Gaming Emporium is an off track betting site and will offer gamblers the ability to bet on live horse races, but the main attraction will no doubt be the 700 historical horse racing terminals.

James River Nurseries was proud to be selected landscape contractor for the new Rosie's Gaming Emporium on Midlothian and wish the best of luck to all players who enter the doors to this facility!
