In 2010, James River Nurseries added a full service hardscapes division to better serve our clients both in commercial and residential settings.  We believe by offering both the hard (i.e. patios, walkways, retaining wall etc.)  and soft (i.e. trees, shrubs, flowers etc.) components of an outdoor of a project, we are able to maximize job efficiency and help control costs.  Additionally, by eliminating the need for our clients to work with multiple contractors, they can rest assure there will be a seamless transition from one phase of the project to the next.

On the commercial side of the equation, here are just a few examples where we were contracted to handle both landscaping and hardscaping on the project:  West Broad Village, Stone Brewing Richmond, Hope Church, Libbie Mill-Midtown, University of Richmond, Va. Historical Society, Green Front Furniture, Hope Church, American Civil War Museum, Sauer Center and GreenGate.

Here at James River Nurseries, we're proud to finally take our place in Monroe Park's rich history!

As one of our city's most culturally and environmentally significant open spaces, the park has a storied history that dates back to the mid 1800s.  After closing in November 2016 for a major renovation designed to bring new life, new amenities, and modern infrastructure to Monroe Park, the park officially reopened on Sept. 27th, 2018.  This was the first comprehensive renovation since the park's creation in 1851.

If you're familiar with the park, it's likely you know this five sided polygon has iconic radial walks which focus on the four adjacent streets and on a central fountain.  We're proud to have been awarded the contract to refurbish those walkways.  The asphalt walkways were replaced by compacted stone dust.

The total cost of all renovations to the park was approximately $6 million and will "honor the Park's history while creating a dynamic, welcoming and safe place for all Park visitors to enjoy.  With that, the renovations will provide a fitting rebirth for one of Richmond's oldest and most significant public spaces."

Here at James River Nurseries, we take pride knowing we have earned a reputation among many of the leading developers, general contractors and landscape architects as a go-to commercial landscape contractor in Central Virginia.

We have earned our reputation because of our ability to consistently provide quality plant material along with professional installation.  Couple that with our knowledge, experience and resources, and it becomes clear why we are known throughout the region as a landscape contractor who can tackle any size project.

We hope you will take time to review the list of some of the projects we have been invited to work on.  We believe our track record speaks volumes as to our capabilities.

James River Nurseries would like to congratulate Maddie Riley, a valued employee, for recently earning the title Virginia Certified Horticulturist (VCH).

In order to earn this title, candidates must pass a rigorous four-hour exam covering a broad range of horticulture subjects including botany, soils and fertilization, diseases, pesticides, plant propagation, trees and shrubs, perennials and annuals, landscape design as well as many other related topics.

Being a Virginia Certified Horticulturist certifies not only their knowledge of a wide range of horticultural subjects, but symbolizes the recipients desire to be informed on the latest developments and trends in the industry.

Here at James River Nurseries, we appreciate and applaud Maddie's desire to keep herself on the cutting edge of our industry and congratulate her on passing the exam to become  a Virginia Certified Horticulturist!
