For this Midlothian family, outdoor living wasn’t just a wish list item—it was a priority. Their existing backyard offered plenty of potential but lacked defined living space, usability, and structure. With young children, active schedules, and a love for entertaining, they wanted a space that was beautiful, functional, and connected to the surrounding landscape. That’s where our team came in.
Our hardscape division led the design and installation of a custom thermal bluestone patio, selected for its natural elegance, durability, and ability to complement the wooded setting behind the home. The patio layout creates multiple zones for relaxing, outdoor dining, and conversation—perfect for both quiet mornings with coffee and evenings hosting friends around the fire.
To enhance the sensory experience, we added a custom water feature, bringing movement and the calming sound of flowing water to the space. Not only does it anchor the outdoor living area, but it also draws the eye outward into the landscape, creating a peaceful transition from home to nature.
From there, our landscape team layered in a thoughtful planting plan designed for four-season interest. Structural evergreens provide year-round appeal, while flowering perennials like yarrow, coneflower, and catmint add color and pollinator activity from spring through fall. Plant selections were also chosen strategically for slope stabilization and water management, improving drainage while enhancing beauty.
This project is a perfect example of how hardscape and landscape work together to create outdoor environments that feel both refined and inviting. With the right materials, layout, and planting approach, function and beauty don’t just coexist—they elevate each other.
